This does not qualify...muhahahah!!

Oppo, there’s nothing I love more than power and practicality. This evening I need you to make a two vehicle garage where both vehicles have a rear hatch (that means the rear glass moves in order to reveal usable storage space). Here are your criteria:

Both vehicles must have rear hatches.

Both vehicles must be rated at a minimum of 300 hp AND 300 lb-ft of torque from the factory.

Both vehicles must be from model years 2003 - 2009.

Both vehicles must have current list prices below $10,000 and have the ability to be driven AS IS for 1,000 miles.

** Bonus: You may add a third vehicle as long as it makes at least 240 lb-ft of torque and follows the rest of the criteria.

Let’s see what attainable attack hatches you can find and add to the Labor Day shopping list. As always, thank you and enjoy yo’selves!

When the answer isn’t Miata, it probably isn’t R-Spec either. Damn those are such good deals right now! I saw one four days ago and couldnt get over how good the rear looked even with a Panamera parked facing out next to it.

1. Ford Excursion. With a diesel, it’s going to be very close to the 10k mark, but making about 320 HP and 550 tq.

2. Nissan Titan. Early ones can be had cheap. The 5.7 will make 306 hp and 380 tq. The middle section of the back window rolls down to reveal interior space so I’m saying that it counts.

Bonus : B5 S4 wagon. My friend picked his up for about 6k and they make almost 300 tq

Im sure I can find a Titan with a bed cap somewhere, that rear window loophole isn’t quite convincing me. I have been craving both of those vehicles by the way, it’s like you’re inside my mind...don’t poke anything that looks squishy.

Ok fine. This or I’m just getting a Pathfinder. Because you could buy a Titan and a bed cap and still be under budget.

Audis are reliable in Europe. Most of us on this side find the whole “Audis break thing” weird.

As for the Rover, by Royal charter every village must have a Land Rover specialist in honour of Her Majesty’s service during the war so I guarantee I will never be stranded.

That's because you don't put any miles on your cars. The countries are the size of postage stamps and after 3 years every car is worth £1000

Finally a Magnum! You picked the first two vehicles I thought of, though I’m surprised no one has gone with ANY of the luxury/performance two row SUVs from 2003-2006. There are like 12 of them to choose from!

My first thought were big SUVs - Expedition, Tahoe, Armada. Not a lot of “attack” in them in the sport sense though.

Go one smaller. FX45, X5 4.4L, Cayenne Turbo, Touareg V8 (maybe V10 TDi). I’ll keep shopping but all those are sportier than a Taurus SHO or Fusion Sport apparently.

I think you all have lower standards for reliability (your fuel efficiency demands preventing our simple, durable cars from working there), as well as lower costs to keep European cars running (parts and labor seem to be a lot higher here), and mechanics that are actually familiar with them.

Also, you have lower-end Audis, that aren’t 10 pounds of shit in a 5 pound bag, and are therefore cheaper to maintain by nature. (That, however, is not a lower-end Audi.)

(that means the rear glass moves in order to reveal usable storage space)

You do realize that I could shove a Miata through that loophole, if only I could find a LS swap in your year range for your price range, right?

(The rear glass moves up (from the top storage area) to reveal usable storage space (and I have used that storage space, too, on my Miatas).)

Kinja'd!!! Wobbles the Mind > bhtooefr
09/04/2016 at 21:13

Kinja'd!!!0

That’s supplemental to the term hatch, so it needs to not only qualify by the definition of the term but also include that window stipulation. That said, if you can loophole a miata then please do!

I didn’t, but apparently (and this is a huge internet thingy) the ECU while unable to be tuned is quite intelligent. So if you pop the exhaust off after the first set of cats (it friggin has 4 of them!) and run an almost straight pipe with high flow mufflers, an open intake, rather than the snake pit it has stock, and run 101 race gas it puts down numbers that hit about 485 HP. Apparently a few people have done it where they remove the rear cats and run the custom exhaust and pick up 30 hp on 93 after a few tanks of gas and pulling the ESC fuse. The traction control disable is about the longest forum thread i’ve ever seen on one subject.

But either way, 429 HP is adequate for me at this time, and I’m not 100% sure I believe the internets in this, but whatevs. V8.

Why are there no good V8 hatches?
